Tinryland Gaelic Football club notes for 12th February

It was a good weekend for Carlow senior footballers with outstanding wins for both men’s and ladies teams. In the Allianz national football league Carlow had an outstanding 2-11 to 0-5 win over Leitrim to move to the top of the division 4 table after 3 games. Tinryland players Paul Broderick, Shane Redmond, Danny Moran and Cian Lawlor all played their part on Saturday last while Diarmaid Walshe was also part of the Carlow panel who will be away to Waterford in Dungarvan at the end of February.

Not to be outdone the Carlow ladies were also impressive in winning their Lidl division 4 clash with Derry which was played at the Carlow training centre in Fenagh last Sunday. Four players from Bennekerry-Tinryland were involved in this game. New recruit Nuala Mohan together with Roisin Byrne, Ciara Nolan and Elaine Ware all contributed to Carlow’s 4-7 to 1-4 victory over the Oak Leaf Co. with Elaine Ware scoring Carlow’s 4th goal. The Carlow ladies will be away to Fermanagh in their next game on Sunday 25th February.

Club training for all Tinryland adult team’s will commence on this evening Tuesday 13th February at 8 p.m. under club trainer Martin Doyle and his backroom team of Paul Kenny, Niall Barrett and P.J. Murphy.

Congratulations to Marcus Lawler and Adam Murphy who had a very successful day on Friday last at the Irish Universities indoor track and field championships in Athlone. Marcus was victorious in the mens 60m while Adam took a great bronze medal in the 200m. Both men anchored the I.T. Carlow squad to gold in the 4 x 200m relay.

At the Irish Masters cross country championships in Galway Tinryland A.C. athletes Tommy Payne and J.J. Murphy won gold and silver respectively in the M60 and M65 category.

The Ireland Lights Up initiative continues at the walking track in Tinryland G.F.C. between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. every Monday during February. Those taking part should sign in with Emma Fitzgerald or Anne Marie Maher prior to commencing the walk.

Tickets are now on sale for the club dinner dance in the Seven Oaks hotel on Friday 2nd March. Tickets at 25 euro can be purchased at the club bar or from members of Bennekerry-Tinryland ladies club. A sub- committee meeting concerning the dinner dance will be held this evening Tuesday at 8.30 p.m.
