Tinryland players played their part in Carlow’s great victory in round 6 of the Allianz N.F.L. away to Antrim in Belfast on Sunday last. The 3 point victory ensured the Barrowsiders promotion to Division 3 for the 1st time in 33 years. Paul Broderick had his usual star game scoring 7 points with Shane Redmond, playing well in defence. Cian Lawlor was introduced early in the 2nd half while Danny Moran and Diarmaid Walshe all played their part in the six match winning sequence over London, Limerick, Leitrim, Waterford, Wicklow and Antrim. Carlow will face Laois this coming weekend at Netwatch Cullen Park in the final game of the league having already secured promotion.

The club football season will begin on this coming Sunday in Bennekerry at 6 p.m. when Tinryland senior footballers open their campaign against our neighbours Palatine. This game will also double up as the Andy Murphy memorial tournament which was first contested in 2015 during the Andy Murphy memorial week which raised over 30,000 euro for the Carlow Hospice fund. Tinryland has won the cup twice with Palatine winning in 2016 when the game was last staged in Bennekerry.

Adding further spice to this fixture is the fact that both clubs have been drawn together in the opening round of the 2018 Carlow S.F.C.

The re-scheduled Tinryland G.F.C./Bennekerry-Tinryland ladies G.A.A. dinner dance will be held at the Seven Oaks hotel on this coming Friday 23rd March at 8 p.m. Those planning to attend are requested to purchase tickets prior to tomorrow Wednesday 21st March so that numbers can be given to the hotel. The u21 championship medals and the ladies senior championship medals will be presented at the function. There is a door prize of a weekend for 2 at any Great National Hotel for one lucky ticket owner attending next Friday’s function.
