Tinryland G.F.C. Club Notes for Tuesday 31st July

After a quiet week on the playing front the football championship season hots up again this week with two club teams in action. Tinryland Junior (A) team will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they take on Leighlinbridge in round 2 of the Talbot Hotel J.F.C. at the training centre on this coming Thursday at 8 p.m. Tinryland lost their opening game to St. Patrick’s and will be hoping for victory on Thursday to nail down a quarter final spot.

In the Michael Lyng Motors S.F.C. Tinryland will be hoping to continue their winning ways when last year’s Co. finallists Rathvilly provide the opposition in round 2 at Netwatch Cullen park on this coming Saturday at 7.30 p.m. Tinryland were impressive in round 1 against Palatine and will be hoping for a repeat performance on Saturday to ensure a place in the knock out stages.

Bennekerry-Tinryland senior ladies who are seeking a 4th consecutive Carlow S.F.C. take on former champions St. Fortcherns on this coming Thursday at 7.30 p.m.  at a venue to be decided.

Club members were impressive in a number of athletic disciplines at the weekend. At the Irish life Health National senior track and field championships in Santry Marcus Lawler from Ballycrogue won silver in the men’s 200m finishing 5 one hundredths of a second behind Commonwealth games silver medallist Leon Reid in one of the races of the championships. Adam Murphy from Ballyloo son of Tinryland G.F.C. chairman Mick finished 2nd in his heat to qualify for the 200m final also in which he finished 7th. Marcus will now turn his attention to the upcoming European senior championships in Berlin next week. At the Ironman Switzerland triathlon event in Zurich on Sunday last club member Paddy Byrne from Linkardstown put up a great performance to finish in 15 hours and 8 minutes. In last Sunday’s event Paddy who is M.D. of Tinryland G.A.A. club sponsors Xenon Fire and Security had to swim 3 miles, cycle 112 miles and run a full marathon of 26 miles and 385 yards.

The annual Tinryland GFC golf classic will take place at Gowran park golf club on Friday and Saturday 10-11 August. Further details from Cormac Walshe on 086 1945633 or Mark Morrissey 086 1231208.
