Easy win for Tinryland in Carlow S.F.L. Division 1

 by Eamonn Byrne

Tinryland scored their 5th successive win in the Carlow S.F.L Division 1 with a very easy victory against  last years Intermediate champions St. Andrews in Rathcrogue on Saturday 9th June. Despite the final scoreline of 6 11 to 0-6 Tinryland looked a little flat in the first half and were perhaps flattered by the half time score of 3- 2 to 0-3.

The game was only 20 seconds old when Glen Doyle scored the opening point of the match following a great catch from the throw in by Cian Moore who transferred the ball to John Dwyer with Padraig Townsend also involved before Glen pointed.

Andrew Beaton opened St Andrews account with a pointed free 2 minutes later before David Townsend rattled the Bagenalstown net in the 6th minute following more good work by Glen Doyle. There was stalemate then until the 14th minute when Alan Barrett raised a white flag before Tinryland started to put a stamp on the game with 2 goals within 60 seconds. The first in the 17th minute was scored by Glen Doyle following a movement involving Padraig Townsend while the second almost immediately was a beauty by Paul Broderick following a great move involving Danny Moran and David Townsend. St Andrews goalkeeper Paddy Cody then made a great save from Alan Barrett to leave the interval score 3 2 to 0 3 in favour of Tinryland.

The second half was barely 1 minute old when Tinryland scored another point via Alan Barrett following good work by Glen Doyle, Padraig Townsend and Cian Lawlor and when John Dwyer pointed in the 32nd minute the Tinryland lead was stretched to 9 points.

Both teams traded a brace of points between the 35th and 40th minutes with Cian Moore now operating at full forward scoring a great point following great passing by Paul Broderick and Glen Doyle who was now lording it at midfield. Another Tinryland goal from Alan Barrett after more productive work from Doyle and Broderick left the scoreboard reading 4-6 to 0-5 after 47 minutes with Tinryland introducing fresh legs in Diarmaid Walshe, Ciaran Townsend and Evan Doyle. Another Moore point in the 50th minute was followed by a Ciaran Townsend beauty and when Alan Barrett once again found the net with 5 minutes remaining the game was long over as a contest. The closing stages saw Evan Doyle rattle the net following great work by Ciaran Townsend and Diarmaid Walsh and Evan closed the scoring with a well struck 45 before referee Pat Keogh sounded the final whistle.Tinryland will be back in action on this coming Wednesday evening against Kilbride in Rathcrogue at 7 30 p.m and will then have 2 more games remaining in the league against O Hanrahans away on Saturday 23rd June with the Naomh Eoin fixture away still be be arranged. Tinryland were never really troubled in this game with the defence well marshalled by Padraig Delaney, Peadar Doran, John Paul Moore, Conor Byrne, Danny Moran, Shane O’ Neill and Jack Lowry who withdrew with a groin injury and was replaced by Cian Lawlor who did well once again. At midfield Cian Moore and John Dwyer together with Glen Doyle in the second half were never really troubled while up front Alan Barrett ended with a personal tally of 2-3 and was well supported by Paul Broderick, Padraig Townsend, Richard Whyte, David Townsend,  together with subs Diarmuid Walshe, Ciaran Townsend, Evan Doyle and Kevin Barrett who all played a part in this easy win.  Scorers Alan Barrett 2-3, Glen Doyle 1-1, Evan Doyle 1-1, Cian Moore 0-3, Paul Broderick 1-0, David Townsend 1-0, John Dwyer, Danny Moran and Ciaran Townsend 1 point each.
