The curtain came down on the 2013 season when Eire Og minors confirmed their supremecy over Tinryland when comfortably winning the Carlow minor league title at Dr Cullen park on Sunday 24th November.

Eire Og were never headed after taking the lead in the 4th minute after Diarmaid Walshe and James Brennan had traded points within 3 minutes of the throw in.

The first game changing score arrived as early as the 7th minute when Eire og were awarded a penalty which was clinically despatched to the net by their centre back Mark Furey. To their credit the Tinryland lads responded with points from John Fleming and Diarmaid Walshe who converted a free won by one of Tinryland’s best players Niall Lowry. The town team then tagged on 3 further points from Colm Hulton, Adam Murphy and James Brennan before Tinryland closed the first half scoring with points from Diarmaid Walshe (free) and Andrew Hanley. This left the scoreboard at half time reading Eire og 1-6 Tinryland 0-5.

Tinryland introduced U16 players John Murphy and Fionnan Burke into the fray at the interval having introduced another U16 member Peter Hennessy for the injured Dermot McGuill shortly before half time.

An injury to centre back Fiach Byrne resulted in another U16 player Cathal Gaffney entering the fray shortly after the restart. At this stage Tinryland’s best goal chance arrived but with the open net at his mercy John Fleming saw his attempt fly over the bar for a point. This was as close as Tinryland got to the Co. champions and a hat trick of points between the 35th and 46th minutes stretched the Eire Og lead back out to 7 points with 14 minutes remaining. Despite a quick point from Tinryland’s 5th sub Conall O Se it was Eire Og who sealed their victory with a well worked goal from corner forward Evan Kelly with 10 minutes left. This score gave the Y.I’s a nine point cushion and despite two consolation points from Diarmaid Walshe Eire Og were deserving winners on a final scoreline of 2-10 to 0-9 .

After this defeat Tinryland must look to any positives that can be taken from the game. The fact that seven under 16 players have now played a Co minor final must count for the future and after the U16 double this season and the minors reaching league and championship finals means that the club is progressing well at underage level which must stand for future prospects at U21, Junior and senior level.
