Tinryland  Junior(A) team narrowly lost their unbeaten record in round 7 of the Carlow S.F.L. division 4 at home to second placed Askea on Sunday 25th May. Having cruised through the group stages in their opening 6 matches recording high winning margins the Tinryland lads faced their strongest opponents to date in Askea who have just recently been relegated from the Intermediate ranks. In a match played in torrential rain Tinryland got off to a perfect start when Alan Barrett rattled the Askea net in the 6th minute. Askea then replied with 2 points from Sean McKevitt and Garry Byrne before Garry Fields stretched the Tinryland advantage back out to 2 points by the 14th minute. Askea then took the lead for the first time when wing forward Byrne rattled the Tinryland net in the 18th minute and by the 20th minute the town side were 3 points ahead when their centre forward Eoin Evison pointed. The closing stages of the first half saw Askea score a further 2 points with Tinryland closing their first half tally with a Garry Fields point. Half Time score Askea 1-6 Tinryland 1-2

Tinryland introduced Eddie Dowling into the fray at half time and in similar fashion to the first half Alan Barrett crashed home a goal in the 35th minute to leave the minimum separating the sides.

The teams were level by the 37th minute when Garry Fields slotted over a point but Askea stretched ahead once again in the 39th minute as Tinryland introduced Padraic Whelan into the action. Mid- way through the second half Garry Fields levelled matters once again and Tinryland were ahead by a point with 13 minutes remaining when Padraic Whelan made a quick impact to slot over a point.

Tinryland then stretched further ahead with 11 minutes left when Garry Fields raised a white flag but three Askea points in succession in a two minute spell saw the town side edge ahead at a crucial time. Tinryland never stopped trying but Askea held out for a two point victory despite a further Tinryland point from Whelan. Final score Askea 2-10 Tinryland 2-8. Tinryland will now play Old Leighlin or Eire Og in the Division 4 semi- final and could face Askea again in the final if successful.
