Tinryland Junior A team recorded an amazing 28 point win over Eire Og’s 3rd string in the 3rd round of the S.F.L. division 4 at Rathcrogue on Friday evening 25th April. This win made it 3 from 3 in the division with the team clocking up impressive scoring stats of 19 goals and 28 point and only conceding 3 goals and 16 points in the 3 matches to date against Kildavin-Clonegal, St. Andrews and last evenings opposition. In addition ace scorer Alan Barrett who bagged 4 -1 last evening has now scored 8-4 in the 3 matches which is impressive scoring indeed.

The results of this game was never in doubt after the opening ten minutes when Tinryland with wind advantage clocked up 1-5 without reply with the goal coming from David Townsend following great interplay between himself, John Paul Moore, player manager Niall Barrett and Alan Barrett.

The 5 points in this period were scored by Dean Farrell (2), Alan Barrett, David Townsend and Niall Barrett with Dean Farrell in particular impressing at this stage of the game with his pacey runs at the Eire Og defence. Tinryland never took their foot off the pedal at any stage in that opening half and by the 20th minute led by 3-7 to 0-0 with the highlights being 2 super goals from the Barrett brothers Alan and Niall. Alans goal in the 14th minute was a gem straight from the coaching textbook following a perfect 50 metre pass from hard working mid fielder Patrick Townsend. 30 seconds later the ball was back in the Eire Og net after Niall Barrett crashed home our 3rd goal of the evening following more productive play by Dean Farrell and Alan Barrett. Chris Townsend then extended the lead with a well struck 45 and the 4th goal duly arrived courtesy of Alan Barrett after Ciaran Townsend had won possession from an Eire Og kick out. Two points then followed from Niall Barrett and Greg Murphy before the home team completed the 1st half in style with a goal each from the Barrett brothers to leave the half time score Tinryland 6-9 Eire Og 0-0.

The Tinryland defence can take great credit also for that flawless first half performance with stand in goalkeeper Peter Hennessy keeping a clean sheet being well protected by experienced players Shane O’Neill, Evan Doyle, John Paul Moore and Padraig Delaney. With the wind in their faces the second half saw a drop off in the Tinryland intensity and the selectors took the opportunity to empty the bench in full with Padraig Whelan, Jeff Abbott and James Moore all entering the fray closely followed by Kevin Barrett, Alan Kirwan and Brian Farrell. Eire Og then went in search of some consolation scores but it was the 38th minute before the town team finally opened their account with a successful free from Corey Harmon.  Eddie McKenna doubled their score when he slotted over a point in the 40th minute before David Townsend opened Tinryland’s 2nd half account with a point after good play by Niall Barrett and sub Alan Kirwan. Another Eire Og point from Adam Murphy then followed before Corey Harmon and David Townsend traded points in the 50th and 55th minute. The game ended as it had started with a Tinryland score this time a goal from the top drawer from scoring sensation Alan Barrett after great play from Brian Farrell and David Townsend.

The Junior A team will be back in action in round 4 on Sunday next 4th May at 6 p.m. with an away game in Molaise park against Old Leighlin
