Tinryland 2-11                                                       Leighlinbridge 0-7

Tinryland junior (A) team maintained their winning momentum in the S.F.L. division 3 with their 2nd win in 48 hours against Leighlinbridge on Saturday. With 4 changes from the starting fifteen that accounted for Palatine on Thursday, Tinryland made the early running but only led by 3 points after 20 minutes due to numerous missed chances and superb goalkeeping by Leighlinbridge netminder Christy Kearney. Early points from Gary Fields and Niall Barrett opened the Tinryland account before Val Fleming converted a free for the All Blacks. Further Tinryland points from David Townsend, Gregg Murphy, and Barrett put the home side 4 points clear before Leighlinbridge responded with points from Val Fleming and Philip Kehoe.

On the stroke of half time Tinryland finally breached the Leighlin rearguard with a goal out of the top drawer from full forward David Townsend following good play from Dean Farrell, and Niall Barrett.

The early stages of the 2nd half saw Gary Fields and Val Fleming trade points but Tinryland then asserted with a Niall Barrett goal and 5 unanswered points from David Townsend, Gary Fields (3), and sub Padraig Delaney. With time running out Leighlinbridge finally woke from their slumber scoring 3 quick points from Pakie Fleming, sub Shane O’Reilly and Sean Brennan.

Outstanding for the winners were Peter Doran, Jack Lowry, Colm Kearney, Dean Farrell, Gregg Murphy, Padraig Whelan, David Townsend and Niall Barrett.

Leighlinbridge were best served by Christy Kearney, Pakie Fleming, David Kehoe, Adrian Dermody, Philip Kehoe and Val Fleming. Saturdays win puts Tinryland into 4th place on the league table but with other clubs having games in hand it is unlikely that we will make the knockout stages. Attention will then turn to the J.F.C. (A) which commences on week ending 22nd July against St. Patricks with further games in August against last Saturday’s opposition Leighlinbridge and Naomh Eoin.
