      St. Andrews 8-11                                                                             Tinryland 5-10

Referee Billy Fanning was kept busy making entries in his notebook for all the right reasons in this amazing game in Rathcrogue on Wednesday last. 34 scores in 60 minutes is definitely a rare occurrence for an adult game in Carlow. Straight from the throw in both teams went on the attack and by half time six goals had been scored with the winners getting 4 via Robert Thompson, Neil Martin, David Tuite and Dessie Dowling. Tinryland started well scoring an early goal from Gary Fields while Jack Lowry got their second major just before the break.

It was more of the same early in the second half with Declan Salter for St. Andrew’s and David O’Shea for Tinryland rattling the respective nets. Mid-way through the second half the Bagenalstown side held a 9 point lead but Tinryland kept responding and 2 goals from Dean Farrell and Jack Lowry kept the eventual winners on their toes. The men from McGrath Park kept up the pressure and were rewarded with some superb goals and points including 3 more goals from Dessie Dowling, sub Paddy Kennedy and Craig Doyle.

The winners had outstanding players in goalkeeper Keith Hickey together with Rory Doyle, Craig Doyle, Michael Gardiner, David Tuite, Dessie Dowling and sub Paddy Kennedy. Tinryland were best served by Jack Lowry, Gary Scully, David O’Shea, Gregg Murphy, Joe Byrne and sub Dean Farrell.
