Tinryland Junior B team are still awaiting that elusive first win this season following another

narrow defeat at the hands of St. Patricks in the 4th round of the S.F.L division 5 in Rathcrogue on Monday evening 7th April. This game was won and lost in the first half when St Patricks with wind advantage scored 2-5 to Tinryland’s 0-4 with 1-4 of that tally coming in the last 7 minutes of the half. Tinryland should have been a lot closer at the interval but were denied two clear cut chances when St Pats keeper Ebbie Quigley  made a wonderful save from John Jackson in the 20th minute. 4 minutes later Mick Delaney missed an open goal chance when his shot was inches wide of the target. In contrast the Tullow men took their goal opportunities and they were rewarded as early as the 5th minute when Stephen Byrne found the Tinryland net. Tinryland scored four points in that opening half via John Jackson 18 mins, Colm Nolan 22 mins, John Jackson again in the 27th minute following good work from David O’Shea and Mick Delaney from a free in the 29th minute. St Patricks second goal was a screamer from the boot of full forward Noel Goss on the stroke of half time.

When the second half began Tinryland were first to register when Mick Delaney pointed but this was matched by a Jamie Garry point for the Slaneysiders. Mick Delaney and Eoin Fields kept the home side in touch with points in the 40th and 45th minutes and when John Jackson goaled in the 50th minute Tinryland were now only 2 points in arrears. An Eoin Fields point 60 seconds later left only the minimum between the teams but just as it looked that Tinryland were going to take over St Patricks rallied with a point from Robert Byrne. Colm Nolan’s point in the 58th minute was Tinryland’s last as the winners had the final say with a point from Jamie Garry on the stroke of the final whistle. Full time score St. Patricks 3-6  Tinryland 1-9. The Junior B team will be back in action on Monday next 14th April with an away fixture in Palatine at 7 p.m.. The Seniors open their division 1 campaign on Saturday next 12th April with a home tie against Kildavin-Clonegal at 7 p.m. while the Junior A squad open their Division 4 campaign also at home against Kildavin-Clonegal on Sunday next 13th April at 6 p.m.

Best for Tinryland Junior B team on Monday were Peter Hennessy, David O’ Shea who continues to impress, Kevin Barrett, Adam Mullen, Eoin Fields John Jackson and Mick Delaney.

Tinryland: Mick Moore, Paddy Browne, Peter Hennessy, David O’Shea, Kevin Barrett, Adam Mullen, Alan Kirwan, Garry Scully, Adam Nolan, John Jackson 1- 2, Eoin Fields 0-2, Cathal Whelan, Mick Delaney 0-3, Colm Nolan 0-2.
