Tinryland senior footballers made it 5 wins out of 6 in the S.F.L. division 1 with a gritty win against Kildavin-Clonegal in Kildavin on Friday evening 18th May. With the home side on a high after defeating Rathvilly the previous week Tinryland expected a tough challenge  against the Wexford border side. Tinryland began the game with 6 changes from the starting fifteen against Old Leighlin and were behind after 3 minutes when Daniel St. Ledger opened the scoring for Kildavin-Clonegal. Within two minutes the ball was in the Kildavin net after a brilliant Padraig Whelan goal following a pin point free kick from Shane O’Neill after Danny Moran was fouled. Points from Alan Barrett after good work by J P Moore and Glen Doyle stretched Tinryland into a five point lead by the 10th minute. Kildavin sharpshooter Joe Roberts narrowed the gap to 4 points when he pointed a free in the 11th minute before Tinryland were awarded a penalty which was missed by Danny Moran but all was not lost as Alan Barrett pointed within seconds. Two points from St Ledger and Roberts left a goal between the sides by the 25th minute before Evan Doyle who was on song with free kicks pointed another after great work by Keith Jackson. The closing stages of the first half saw Richard Sinnott and Joe Roberts convert frees for Kildavin Clonegal to leave the half time score 1-5 to 0-6 in favour of Tinryland.

On the resumption John Dwyer who played well throughout pointed within 10 seconds and when Glen Doyle scored another point 4 minutes later Tinryland were 4 clear once again. Kildavin then had a player sent off for a second yellow offence but they continued to press and were rewarded with 2 points from Richard Sinnott and Daniel St Ledger. Evan Doyle steadied the Tinryland ship with another successful free kick in the 38th minute before further Kildavin points left only 2 points separating the sides with 15 minutes remaining. Tinryland then introduced minor player Diarmuid Walshe and he made an immediate impact when he won a free which Evan Doyle converted to leave three points separating the sides once again. With Padraig Delaney  Ciaran Townsend and Kevin Barrett now also involved after injuries Tinryland closed out the match with 3 unanswered points from Evan Doyle (2) and Padraig Whelan and the final whistle arrived with Tinryland winning by 1-12 to 0-9.Every Tinryland player played a part in this significent win with Trevor O’Reilly getting great support from the entire defence of Jeff Sutton, John Paul Moore, Peadar Doran, Danny Moran, Shane Redmond and Niall Barrett.
