Tinryland Junior A team lost out by the minimum margin to the home side in an entertaining Division 4 match at Pairc Ui Bhrian on Thursday 16th April. When Tinryland mentors analyse this game it will be plain to see that the points were lost in the first half when the home side scored 2-7 with Tinryland only managing 6 points and failing to score for a full 15 minutes in the half. With the appointed referee failing to show it took almost an hour before this game began with Enda Hulton taking up duties instead of the appointed referee.

Padraig Whelan opened the Tinryland account in the opening minute but it was Eire Og that made the running for the remainder of the game scoring goals via Andy Byrne and Adam Murphy in the 4th and 19th minutes. Padraig Whelan who was Tinryland’s best player on the night and who finished with a personal tally of 3-6 tagged on 3 points in the opening 30 minutes while the other first half scorers for the men in blue and white were Alan Kirwan, Garry Fields and Padraig Townsend. Half time score Eire Og 2-7 Tinryland 0-6.

Tinryland began the second half in much more positive mode and a quartet of points from Garry Fields, David Townsend, and Padraig Whelan (2) reduced the Eire Og lead to 4 points with 20 minutes remaining. The home side then re-grouped adding on a goal and a point before Padraig Whelan bagged Tinryland’s first goal in the 49th minute to leave the scoreboard reading 3-9 to 1-11 with 10 minutes remaining. Eire Og then responded with their 3rd goal before a tremendous Tinryland finish saw Padraig Whelan completing his hat trick of goals to leave the final score Eire Og 3-12 Tinryland 3-11.
