Two weeks after winning the Carlow Div 3 title Tinryland Junior A squad were no match for a very impressive Eire Og in the Carlow J.F.C. quarter final at Palatine G.A.A. grounds in Bennekerry on Monday 20th August. For 20 minutes of this game Tinryland were competitive against their town opponents who had a mixture of youth and experience in their ranks. Eire Og were first to score in the 2nd minute but Tinryland had numerous chances to open their account including a gilt edged goal chance from Garry Fields which was saved by town goalie Craig White. Matthew O’Toole eventually opened our account in the 18th minute and when we scored a goal helped to the net by Eire Og’s Alan Curran  in the 19th minute the scoreboard read 1-1 to 0-3 in Tinryland’s favour. At this stage Tinryland had lost two players through injury with defenders Joey Ryan and Brian Farrell being replaced by Fiach Byrne and Brian Mullen. This was as good as it got for Tinryland however and between the 20th and 30th minutes Eire Og scored 4-5 without reply as their forward line went into overdrive to leave the interval score 4-8 to 1-1

When play resumed it was all one way traffic but Tinryland did manage two points in the 33rd and 39th minutes from David O’Shea and Garry Fields and another from Matthew O’Toole in the 50th minute. During this period of play Eire Og tagged on a further 1-5 to leave the scoreboard reading 5-13 to 1-4 with 10 minutes remaining. The final stages of the game saw total Eire Og domination which was highlighted by a great save by Tinryland goalie Colm Nolan who could do nothing about 2 further Eire Og goals scored by  Niall Kenny and Chris Blake. Michael Mullen did have the final say for Tinryland when he pointed in the 56th minute to leave a very disappointing scoreline reading 7-15 to 1-5 at the end.
