Tinryland Junior A team qualified for the Division 3 semi- final after a good win over Leighlinbridge in round 6 at Rathcrogue on Thursday 5th May. The away team were first on the scoresheet when full forward Hugo Ashmore pointed in the 2nd minute. Tinryland then settled down to play productive football and 2 points from Rory Doyle and his cousin Paul in the 4th and 6th minutes gave the men in blue and white a lead they never relinquished. A Conor McGrath point in the 9th minute was followed by the opening goal from Gregg Murphy in the 11th minute following a great pass from one of Tinryland’s best players Alan Barrett. Alan showed his class over the latter part of the 1st half when he added 3 points in the 20th, 22nd and 30th minutes to give Tinryland a half time lead of 1-6 to 0-4.
The All Blacks had kept their account alive with points from frees by Val Fleming and one from play scored by wing forward James Kane. Hugo Ashmore as he did in the first half scored the opening point of the 2nd period shortly after the re start but in similar fashion this spurred on Tinryland and they stretched their lead to 9 points between the 34th and 40th minutes with points from Alan Barrett and Rory Doyle and a brilliant goal from midfielder Peter Hennessy after more intelligent play by Barrett. The scoreboard kept ticking and an Adam Dunne point in the 41st minute was followed by a goal from Alan Barrett after good play by Conal Dunne which virtually killed the game as a contest. Leighlinbridge could only manage 2 further points from Val Fleming and Conor Nolan in this segment and Tinryland cruised to the final whistle raising another green flag from centre back John Murphy after a pass from Peter Hennessy.

Final score Tinryland 4-9 Leighlinbridge 0-7.
With St Patricks being held to a draw by Palatine, Tinryland have now qualified for the semi- final of Division 3 along with Eire Og, Rathvilly and Ballon or St. Patricks. The league proper ends on Thursday next 12th May when Tinryland travel to James Morris Park to take on Ballon.
