The much maligned Tinryland Junior B team who had to withdraw from this years S.F.L. Div 4 due to lack of numbers reinvented themselves at McGrath Park on Wednesday 25th July with a stunning victory in the 1st round of the championship against Old Leighlin. With 26 players turning up for duty it was obvious that the team meant business and they never looked back after wing back Liam Fitzpatrick had opened the scoring with a point after 60 seconds. From then on the boys in blue and white whose entire squad had all played at underage level continued to dominate and by half time the scoreboard read 3-6 to 0-0 in their favour. Other highlights of the opening half included a great David O’Shea goal in the 13th minute following good work by Sean Delaney and Bobby Whelan while in defence team captain Joe Mernagh, Jason Noctor, Paddy Browne and Liam Fitzpatrick were showing their class. Tinryland’s second goal in the 24th minute was scored by the hard working Michael Delaney and resulted after great interplay between Sean Delaney and Anthony Mannion. Other first half highlights included an Anthony Mannion goal in the 26th minute after great work by centre forward John Farrell and two brilliant long range points from James Murphy and David O’Shea.

The second half was barely 30 seconds old when James Murphy slotted over another point before Old Leighlin finally got on the scoreboard with a point from Gavin Coffey.

This proved to be their only score of the match and from then until the finish Tinryland continued to dominate. The best score of the game came in the 40th minute when James Murphy crashed home a great goal following a brilliant passing movement from the heart of the defence involving goalkeeper David O’Neill, Joe Mernagh, Barry Kennedy,  Liam Fitzpatrick and James Dempsey who impressed at centre back. Sean Delaney who was excellent throughout increased our tally in the 45th minute with a well taken point after great work once again from O’Neill, Mernagh and Fitzpatrick. It was then Anthony Mannions turn to impress and he showed a sublime touch when he flicked home a goal in the 49th minute after a great delivery from David “Dotsy” O Shea. Substitute Colm Kennedy then got on the scoreboard twice within a minute with his 53rd minute point another gem and his 54th minute point the result of more good work by Sean Delaney and midfielder Alan Kirwan. The Tinryland management team had introduced fresh legs by then and substitutes Cillian Townsend, Declan Redmond, Darragh Townsend and Brian Deane all helped to continue the momentum with the icing being put on the cake when James Murphy capped a great individual performance with his second goal of the game in the 56th minute. This win by the Junior B team capped a great 4 days for the club with the Seniors, Minors, and Junior A teams also winning. The Junior B team will now play Kilbride in the quarter final and on this performance they could have a big say in the championship. Final score Tinryland 6-9 , Old Leighlin 0-1
