Tinryland Juniors get 125 year celebrations off to a great start with a win over O Hanrahans in S.F.L. division 3

Tinryland junior footballers got the clubs 125 year celebrations off to a great start with victory over O’Hanrahans in the S.F.L. div 3 on Saturday evening 4th May.

Goals win matches and the Tinryland boys fresh from last weeks improved performance over Asca bagged two goals in each half to overcome a determined Blues outfit.

The town team opened the scoring straight from the throw in when their wing forward slotted over a free but two quick points from David Townsend and Garry Fields edged Tinryland ahead by the 5th minute. With wind advantage O’Hanrahans scored three quick points by the 12th minute before Tinryland produced a moment of magic when David O’Shea assisted by David Townsend crashed the ball to the Blues net to edge us ahead once again. This score spurred O’Hanrahans into overdrive and over the following 10 minutes they tagged on 5 unanswered points to leave them ahead by 6 points 5 minutes before half time. Cue David Townsend once again who produced another sublime moment before off loading to Padraig Delaney who despatched the ball to the Blues net to give Tinryland a lift once again. The final act of the half saw the blues add another point to their tally to leave theinterval score O’Hanrahans 1-9 Tinryland 2-2 with Tinryland now very much in contention having faced a strong wind in that 1st half.

A great opening ten minutes of the second half saw Tinryland produce great football.

Conor O’Brien reduced the margin to 3 points in the 33rd minute and when the same player crashed home a goal in the 35th minute and Tinryland captain Chris Townsend pointed in the 37th minute Tinryland were back in front. Excellent defending from Eddie Dowling and Liam Fitzpatrick kept O’Hanrahans at bay until they finally levelled once again mid way through the half. With time ticking away Tinryland went for the jugular and with 8 minutes remaining David Townsend scored his sides 4th goal to put daylight between the teams at a crucial time. With 4 minutes remaining Chris Townsend put the icing on the cake with another point before the Blues had their final score which was matched by a Dean Farrell point for Tinryland.Final score Tinryland 4-9 O’Hanrahans 1-14.Tinryland’s next game in the S.F.L Division 3 will be away toOld Leighlin on Saturday next 11th May.
