Tinryland junior footballers put up their best performance of the season to date in Bennekerry on Tuesday 23rd May when they defeated neighbours Palatine to reach the division 3 semi-final.

The men in blue and white were never headed in this local derby played in ideal conditions on a balmy late May evening.  Tinryland got off to a good start scoring 2 early points from centre forward Mark Dempsey and Padraig Whelan who converted a free after a foul on the lively David Townsend. Palatine responded in the 7th minute with a point from midfielder Adam Duggan but 60 seconds later David Townsend stretched the Tinryland lead back out to 2 points following good play by Padraic Whelan. Tinryland were guilty of sloppy play for a period and gave away easy ball resulting in 2 Palatine points from corner forward Conor Clonan and veteran Eoin McMahon. Tinryland’s response was swift and the excellent Dean Farrell rattled the Palatine net in the 10th minute with a superb individual goal following good play by Conor Ryan and Padraic Whelan. Half time score Tinryland 1-7 Palatine 0-8.

The second half began with a Palatine point from midfielder Chris O’Brien in the 33rd minute before a class  point from Michael Dobosz stretched the Tinryland advantage  back out to 2 points once again.
