The Junior (C) team travelled to Rathoe to take on Fighting Cocks in the penultimate game in Division 5 on Tuesday 10th May. Tinryland got off to a lively start and were a goal up in the early stages when mid fielder John Fleming rattled the Cocks net. The men in blue and white only managed a further point in the opening half when Killian Maher raised a white flag. The Home side added 5 points to their account in that opening half and led by 0-5 to 1-1 at the break

In the 2nd half Tinryland added 3 further points to their tally via Dean Farrell (2) and Cormac Kelly while Fighting Cocks added a further 8 points to run out winners on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-4.

All in all it was not a bad performance from the hoops against one of the strongest teams in the division. The scoreboard could have been even healthier from a Tinryland point of view as a clear cut goal chance was missed in the closing stages. The final league game in division 5 takes place away to Ballon on Tuesday next 17th May at 8 p.m. There will then be enough time for the squad to train properly for the first round of the championship in July. Outstanding for Tinryland were goalkeeper Johnny Farrell, defenders Joey Ryan, John Whyte and Garry Scully, midfielders John Fleming and Conor Ryan together with Dermot McGuill, Dean Farrell and John Jackson.

Tinryland: John Farrell, Alan Byrne, Joey Ryan, Paddy Byrne, Gary Scully, John Whyte, Cormac Kelly 0-1, Conor Ryan, John Fleming 1-0, Dean Farrell 0-2, Dermot McGuill, Killian Maher, Eoin Fields, John Jackson, Brian Mullen. Subs: P.J. Murphy, Brian Deane, Cathal Whelan.
