Tinryland minors put on an exhibition of impressive football when reaching the M.F.C. (B) final when they defeated St. Patricks at the Netwatch Training centre in Fenagh on Tuesday 4th October. Despite the final score of 1-21 to 1-8 Tinryland found the Slaneysiders tough opponents and it took most of the first half for the boys in blue and white to break down the Tullow team’s resistance.

Tinryland were 2 points up within 3 minutes after early points from the impressive Michael Dobosz after good work by Rory Doyle and Dinny Farrell and a successful free from Keelan Gaffney. St. Pats lost wing forward Ryan Doran to an early injury and they opened their account in the 6th minute with a point from Jamie Farrell. Both sides then had scoring chances before Keelan Gaffney converted another free and T.J.Kavanagh did likewise for the Tullow boys. Tinryland then began to turn on the power scoring impressive points from Ronan Curran, Rory Doyle and Curran again to lead by 4 points by the 26th minute. Jonathon Curran and Eamonn Murphy and Ronan Curran added more points to the Tinryland tally following good play by Tommy Dunne, Eoin Hosey, Cuan Burke, Rory Doyle and Conor Ryan while T.J. Kavanagh kept the Tullow account ticking with a 29th minute point which left the half time scoreboard reading Tinryland 0-9 St. Patricks 0-3.

A strong half time team talk from the Tinryland management team helped to keep the momentum going when the 2nd half began and within 5 minutes Tinryland had stretched clear by 9 points following well taken points by Jonathon Curran, Keelan Gaffney (free), Ronan Curran and Michael Dobosz after a lot of groundwork was done by defenders Rory Doyle, Fergal Kelly, Rory Dunbar, Tommy Dunne, Cuan Burke and Eamonn Murphy together with steady goalkeeper Cian Nolan. St. Pats managed a point in the 37th minute from sub Craig Keenan but Tinryland kept the umpires at the Fenagh end busy with further points from Conor Brennan, Michael Dobosz, Dinny Farrell, Ronan Curran and Tommy Dunne to lead by 18 points to 4 points by the 45th minute. Cormac Flynn then managed to put the ball into the Tinryland net in the 38th minute and when the Tullow boys pointed with 10 minutes remaining the gap was reduced to 11 points as Tinryland began to give their bench a run sending in Aubrey Bradley, Rory Moore, Shea Byrne, Luke Fleming and Alan Grogan. A super goal by Tinryland’s impressive full forward Michael Dobosz with 9 minutes remaining put the icing on the cake and Tinryland cruised to the finish scoring further points via Rory Doyle and Dobosz as the Tullow challenge finally wilted. Final score Tinryland 1-21 St. Patricks 1-8.
