Tinryland minor footballers maintained their unbeaten record in this year’s M.F.C. (B) with a comfortable win over a gritty Clonmore side in Hacketstown on Monday 8th August. Tinryland got off to a lightning start and had a point registered after only 20 seconds when centre back Rory Doyle scored from the throw in. The advantage was doubled in the 4th minute when Ronan Curran pointed after good play by Eamonn Murphy and Rory Doyle. Clonmore opened their account in the 8th minute with a point from wing forward Jake Hickey but the following 4 scores all fell to the boys in blue and white with Ronan Curran slotting over 3 wonderful points and Rory Doyle adding to his tally after good play by Conor Ryan. More good play by Conor Brennan, Rory Doyle, and Eamonn Murphy resulted in another Ronan Curran point in the 17th minute and when full forward Michael Dobosz was fouled in the square 4 minutes later Ronan Curran calmly slotted the ball from the resulting penalty past Clonmore goalie Melvin Kinch. Tinryland were then dealt a blow when Michael Dobosz suffered a hamstring injury and he was replaced by Rory Dunbar. Clonmore managed two further points in the opening half with successful frees from the boot of Jordan Tallon to leave the half time scoreboard reading Tinryland 1-7 Clonmore 0-3.

When Rathvilly referee Brian Deering restarted proceedings Clonmore were quickly out of the blocks scoring a point via corner forward Francis Whelan. Tinryland hit back in a big way when wing back Tommy Dunne finished a promising move to the Clonmore net to leave 9 points separating the sides with 25 minutes remaining. Alan Grogan was then introduced into the fray for Tinryland before points were traded between Ronan Curran for Tinryland and Cian Heffernan for Clonmore. The home side then introduced Luke Connolly into the action and for the next ten minutes more than matched Tinryland. Points from Tom Pollard and Francis Whelan reduced the margin to 7 points mid- way through the second half before Conor Brennan successfully converted a Tinryland free. Clonmore would not lie down however and they forced Tinryland goalie Cian Nolan into making a great save before Sean Deay successfully converted the resulting 45. Rory Moore then entered the action for Tinryland and with 6 minutes remaining the margin was down to 5 points when Josh Bowes slotted over another Clonmore point. This was as good as it got for the home side however and Rory Moore made an instant impact when he crashed the ball to the Clonmore net after good play by Rory Dunbar. The closing stages saw Tinryland sharpshooter Ronan Curran slot over two further points to leave the final score Tinryland 3-11 Clonmore 0-10. Tinryland are now assured of a semi-final spot with 2 games still remaining in the league stages of the M.F.C. (B). Outstanding for the winners were Ronan Curran who finished with a personal tally of 1-8. He was well supported by Eamonn Murphy, Fergal Kelly, Cuan Burke, Rory Doyle, Conor Ryan, Conor Brennan, Tommy Dunne and Dinny Farrell.
