Tinryland’s 2nd junior squad are one game away from championship glory after defeating Clonmore in the J.F.C. (C) semi-final at the Netwatch training centre in Fenagh on Thursday 8th September. In a low scoring game Tinryland were well worth their 5 point winning margin and were never headed after Garry Scully scored the opening goal 90 seconds after the throw in. Eoin Fields for Tinryland and Clive lamb for Clonmore traded points before Tinryland extended their lead to 5 points by the half way point of the first half. Superb defensive play by the men in blue and white kept the Wicklow border side scoreless for the remainder of the half and even though Tinryland failed to add to their account by the half way stage they looked in control facing into the second half with the advantage of the strong breeze. Tinryland’s other first half points were scored by Dean Farrell who worked tirelessly throughout and full forward Michael Dobosz. Half time score Tinryland 1-3 Clonmore 0-1.

When the second half began 3 more minutes elapsed before Tinryland edged 6 points clear following a great individual point by corner forward Eoin Fields. Tinryland replaced the hard working Garry Scully with Jason Curran as Clonmore introduced Richard Bulmer having already brought David Doyle and Martin Byrne into the fray just before the break. Clonmore upped the ante in an attempt to close the gap but the Tinryland defence well marshalled by full back Joey Ryan and veteran P.J. Murphy held firm until Padraig Lawlor broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a point from a free. For a brief period the Hacketstown based team enjoyed the better of the exchanges and were rewarded with a Daniel Quigley goal in the 47th minute which left only 3 points separating the sides with 10 minutes remaining. Tinryland did not panic however and a Michael Dobosz goal following good play by David O’Shea was followed by a well struck point from sub Jason Curran which extended the lead back out to 6 points by the 57th minute. Clonmore never gave up and second half sub Garry Byrne closed the scoring with a point in the final minute as Tinryland advanced to meet Ballon in the Junior Football championship C final. Final score Tinryland 1-8 Clonmore 1-3

Outstanding for Tinryland were the entire defence well marshalled by Joey Ryan, P.J. Murphy, Alan Byrne, John Whyte, Fergal Kelly and Seamus Curran. Up front Eoin Fields, Dean Farrell, Michael Dobosz and Garry Scully were always a threat.

Tinryland: Michael Delaney, Fergal Kelly, Joey Ryan, Alan Byrne, Seamus Curran, John Whyte, P.J. Murphy, Alan Kirwan, Keelan Gaffney 0-1, Garry Scully 1-0, David O’Shea, Dean Farrell 0-2, Eoin Fields 0-2, Michael Dobosz 0-2, Brian Mullen. Sub Jason Curran 0-1.
