Tinryland’s 3rd team are still seeking a first win in division 5 after losing to Clonmore in round 3 at Rathcrogue on Tuesday 12th April. In the early stages of this game Tinryland matched their Wicklow border opponents and were unlucky to be 2 points in arrears after 20 minutes. Clonmore opened their account with a point from the towering Clive Lamb in the 9th minute with corner forward Richard Roche doubling their advantage one minute later. Jack Lowry scored Tinryland’s first point from a free in the 13th minute following good play by Cathal Whelan and another Lowry point from play in the 19th minute was the result of a great movement involving himself, Dean Farrell and Brian Mullen. Clonmore then dominated the closing stages of the first half with points from Paul Byrne, J.P. Doyle and Clive Lamb to leave the scoreboard reading 0-6 to 0-2 in their favour when referee Seamie Doyle sounded the half time whistle.

When play resumed Jack Lowry slotted over a point after good play by Killian Maher, Dean Farrell and Adam Mullen but Clonmore then began to turn the screw with well taken Clive Lamb points in the 32nd and 35th minutes. The men in red and green were then awarded a penalty but a marvellous save by stand in keeper and selector John “Rasher” Farrell kept the ball out of the net. Another Clonmore point by Paul Byrne was followed by a goal from Lamb in the 40th minute which put 10 points between the sides with 20 minutes still remaining. Tinryland enjoyed a brief purple patch at this stage and a point from Jack Lowry after good play by Cormac Kelly and John Whyte was followed by a well taken Cathal Whelan point and another from Brian Mullen after good play by Dean Farrell. When Farrell slotted over another point in the 48th minute the margin was now down to 7 points but that was as good as it got for the home side and Clonmore with 3 points from sub Wesley Tallon and another goal from Richard Roche pulled clear once again. Final score Clonmore 2-15 Tinryland 0-7. Tinryland are back in action on Tuesday next 19th April with another home game at 7.15 p.m. against St Patricks.

Tinryland: John Farrell, Cormac Kelly, Joey Ryan, Paddy Byrne, Dean Farrell 0-1, John Whyte, Eoin Fields, Alan Kirwan, Adam Mullen, Killian Maher, Alan byrne, John Jackson, Cathal Whelan 0-1, Jack Lowry 0-4, Brian Mullen 0-1.
